That Night
By Brenda Vaughn

(Poem)

It was a night when their world stopped turning,
And for a distinct moment in time more than 100 friends looked up to the sky and cried,
Even though they were miles apart,
they all came together and shared but one heart.
They all came together to weep away their pains,
that stung them and hurt them so deeply.
Some sat in silence and rocked back and forth,
Some shook from head to toe and stuttered when they talked,
Some were left in denial of the problem that had arose,
But one girl sat shaking in the corner of their world,
She took off her rose colored glasses and stepped back from the crowd
She looked up at the stars and whispered outloud..
"This is love," she said in a low shaky voice,
They all turned and looked at her with wide gaping mouths,
She then said again, "This is love, this is what its all about."
They all dropped to their knees and and sat staring at the sky,
Knowing that they have all united just to say goodbye.
They all then began to notice that love was all around and the
Girl on her knees now pointed at everyone in the crowd,
"You all need to notice that even in an imaginary world like this
Things can still go wrong, and now's the time we need to come together and begin to get along."
They all stared at her as if they were believeing, they all nodded
their heads in silence like they were agreeing.
The girl stood up and brushed the earth from her knees, she stared
at the North Star and right in front of them all she blew a kiss into the cold night sky,
The others looked at her and followed her lead one by one sending
their wishes into a swirling mix of emotion and saying goodbye.
That night they felt something that made them feel serene,
Like a hazy feeling of comfort and warmth swept over them,
and they felt at home, there...together...like a family....
